Feng Shui is a Chinese philosophical system of keeping things in harmony. It is based on the belief that invisible forces bind the universe, earth, and humanity together. Some interior designers note that following the Feng Shui system makes rooms more visually pleasant.
Bedroom is a good start to apply the Feng Shui system. As you spend a third of your time sleeping, your bedroom should be designed as a perfect place to restore your spirit. The chi should flow smoothly in order to have a peaceful rest.
These basic Feng Shui tips will help you to bring in positive energy and relaxing sleep:
Make sure that your bedroom is free of any bright colors or loud wallpapers. Earth tones such as peach, cream and pale yellow are good in creating relaxing atmosphere. Other pastel colors such as sky blue and minty green also give serenity.
Water features
The bedroom should be free of any water features or water noise. It has to be completely calm or yin, so that people can fall into a deep sleep. According to Feng Shui, when placed in the bedroom, water features can indicate affairs and negatively affect a coupleβs relationship. It is also not good to our physical bodies while we sleep.
Solid headboard
Choose a sturdy, preferably something wooden for your headboard. Solid headboard provides good support for your body and life, and shields you from the chaotic outside world.
Bed Placement
The best position for your bed is in the corner, diagonally across the entrance. Keep the door in sight to increase your sense of security and have power over what comes and leaves the room. However, your feet should not be directed to the door as this symbolizes the coffin position and is unlucky.
Mirrors
For total relaxation while you sleep, keep mirrors from your line of vision. Like water, mirrors are energetic elements. An important rule in Feng Shui is that if you can see yourself or any part of your body through a mirror while lying in bed, the mirror needs to be covered up during sleeping. Objects with mirror such as mirrored cupboard, standing mirrors and mirrors on the ceiling invite infidelity.
Spiritual Deities and Family Pictures
Spiritual deities are considered sacred, and should not be in the same area where youβre sleeping or intimate. It is best to remove these from the bedroom or instead dedicate a room in your house to display your deities or have an altar. Family pictures should be kept out of the bedroom as well.
Light levels
Make sure that the rays of the sun can enter your room throughout the day. At night, have different arrangements of artificial light to switch to dimmer lighting and balance your energy levels. Candles also create a cozy bedroom and invigorating environment.
