Banten is a province located at the western tip of Java, Indonesia. The capital of this province is Serang City and has many natural and cultural tourism riches. In addition to being famous for its beautiful Anyer and Ujung Kulon Beaches, Baduy is also famous for the Baduy Tribe who live in the Kendeng Mountains, Kanekes Village, Lebak Regency, Banten.
The Baduy Tribe is divided into two regions, namely Baduy Luar (Outer Baduy) and Baduy Dalam (Inner Baduy). If the Baduy Luar has absorbed modern culture such as riding vehicles and going to school, the Baduy Dalam still maintains their heritage and ancestral land, lives in harmony with nature, and rejects modernization.
As one of the most popular tribes in Indonesia, many people are interested in seeing their lives firsthand. Several travel agents also offer open trips and private trips to Baduy Luar and Baduy Dalam tours.
2D1N Itinerary to Explore Baduy
Here is a 2D1N itinerary that can be your guide to traveling to Baduy Village:
Day 1
Ciboleger Village – Baduy Luar – Baduy Dalam
08.00 – 21.00 WIB
- Start the journey to Ciboleger Village via Toll (if using a private car) or via ELF/angkot from Rangkasbitung commuter line train station (if using KRL) in the morning.
- Once you arrive at Ciboleger Village, you can rest or have lunch first.
- The journey to Baduy Dalam with tracking Ciboleger-Baduy Luar-Baduy Dalam (estimated time 4 hours). During the trip, you can buy souvenirs typical of Baduy Luar and see the Baduy people weaving.
- Arrive at each homestay and enjoy the village atmosphere then have dinner
- Chatting about the Baduy Tribe with Traditional Figures/Baduy Dalam Residents

- Wake up and have breakfast at the homestay
- Enjoy the sunrise in Baduy Dalam village and see the activities of the Baduy Dalam villagers in the morning such as sightseeing in Baduy Dalam village, introduction to Baduy Dalam traditional figures, and introduction to the Baduy Dalam village environment
- Preparation to Ciboleger/Cikuom to buy souvenirs and knick-knacks in Baduy Dalam before returning home

- Trekking from Baduy Dalam to Ciboleger via root bridge
- Travel back to Jakarta (if using a private car)
- Travel back to St. Rangkasbitung first by ELF/angkot (if using KRL). You can also have lunch around the station. Return by commuter line train from St. Rangkasbitung.
Traditional Rules in Baduy Dalam
For visitors who are visiting Baduy Dalam for the first time, it is recommended to join an open trip with an experienced tour guide. This is because there are several customary provisions that need to be known before entering this area, such as:
- It is forbidden to bathe and wash using soap/detergents of similar cleaning agents (shampoo, toothpaste, facial foam, etc.)
- It is forbidden to use electronic equipment conspicuously other than flashlights/headlamps while in Baduy Dalam
- For foreign nationals and/or Indonesian citizens of foreign descent (oriental, mixed race) whose faces are visible, they are only allowed to go as far as Baduy Luar
- It is expected not to carry out worship activities that are too conspicuous (especially non-Muslims)

1. Baduy Luar and Baduy Dalam Villages
Visitors will feel two different experiences when entering Baduy Luar and Baduy Dalam. Baduy Luar is more open to visitors, its lifestyle is modern, but still maintains its traditions. Meanwhile, Baduy Dalam only allows visitors with special permits and must follow local customs.
2. Ideal for Nature Tourism and Trekking
Baduy is an ideal place for trekking and enjoying nature because it is located in the middle of a lush tropical forest and surrounded by green hills. While passing through the trekking route to Baduy Dalam Village, visitors can see stunning natural scenery with dense forests, clear rivers, and cool air.
3. Natural Baths and Clear Rivers
In Baduy, there is the clear Ciboleger River which is a favorite place for tourists to bathe. In addition to being clear, the water is also fresh because it flows directly from the mountains. Baduy does have several clear rivers and refreshing natural baths.
4. Historical and Religious Tourism
Several places around Baduy also have important historical and religious values. Such as ancient stone sites and holy places revered by the Baduy people, which are an attraction for tourists who are interested in historical and spiritual aspects.
5. Traditional Handicrafts
Original handicraft products from Baduy are a symbol of the local wisdom and traditional skills of the tribe. The famous Baduy handicrafts are made from woven bamboo and rattan, as well as hand-woven fabrics. Visitors can buy various original Baduy handicrafts.

Although this is only a 2 Days 1 Night trip, thorough preparation must still be done. There are several recommended items to bring:

Because not just anyone is allowed to enter the Inner Baduy area, it is highly recommended to use the services of a tour guide from a native Baduy who knows the ins and outs of the area, and can provide explanations about local culture and customs.
